New year's resolutions

And in the IT business domain, my new year's resolutions for 2006...

  • Learn Python. Python is an exciting language with a large community of skilled developers.
  • Make my first Python web application. I am going to use lighttpd or snakelets for that. Unfortunately, at the moment Python for the web really sucks, so I will start with a small application, something like a Python photo gallery.
  • Release my first commercial application for Mac OSX, written with Cocoa. I already released Rula, it was free and but is not available anymore because I didn't have the time to maintain it correctly (too many users, with too many good requests). I have written another one (a manager for sqlite 2) but sqlite got to version 3 before I got the time to release it, so I sort of postponed the project. My next application will be really cool :) Anyway, it's already work in progress...
  • Release Phreez, my Object persistence with php and pdo framework, under BSD license (as soon as I have implemented the history feature).
  • Rewrite HTML_QuickForm, probably for Python and PHP5.

Along with all the daily work I have to do, my little daughter and other family occupations, these would probably be enough to keep me busy in 2006.

What are your new year's resolutions ?

Canon 350D and Sigma

Today I bought a new digital camera for my girlfriend, a Canon 350D with a Sigma 24-70/2.8 lens. It is supposed to be a good camera. The first impressions are it is very light and small compared to traditional camera design. It is so small that I am not totally comfortable with it as my hands are big. I guess this makes this camera more a girl camera...
Another strange design decision is the material. The camera is wrapped in a strange plastic that scratch easily if you have long nails (not so girl-compatible then ?). The scratches can be removed easily, so it should be fine.
The battery is not ready yet so I will report on the picture quality later on and maybe post a few in the photo section...

Getting up and running

Today, I will try to setup my new freeflux account. So far the interface does not seem so easy to use but there are some nice features (ex: automatic live url rewriting). Unfortunately, the WYSIWYG html editor is not compatible with neither Camino nor Safari, my two browsers of choice. So I am writing this in Firefox. The WYSIWYG editor does not degrade so you cannot post content via Safari or Camino. There might be preference to set somewhere ? I need to investigate further. Will report later on...
